We capture your teeth, jaw, and nerves in one 3D image, so that nothing hides behind a flat, single-angle X-ray.

Lower dose than a medical CT

We use a dental-specific scanner, so that you get detailed 3D imaging without the radiation levels of a hospital CT scan.

Done in under a minute

The scanner circles your head once, so that a full 3D model is ready before you've had time to get restless.

Used only when it matters

We reserve it for cases that genuinely need 3D detail, so that you're never scanned more than your treatment requires.

What Is a CBCT 3D X-Ray?

A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scan is a specialised dental X-ray that captures your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and surrounding structures in a detailed, rotatable 3D model, instead of the single flat image from a standard X-ray, useful for planning implants, assessing impacted teeth, or investigating a complex root canal case. It uses more radiation than a routine 2D X-ray, though still far less than a hospital CT scan, so we only recommend one when it will genuinely change your treatment plan.

At Alpha Dental, Sutera Utama in Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai, we always show you the scan on screen and talk through what we're seeing, so you understand exactly why a treatment is, or isn't, recommended.

How it works

Your treatment, step by step.

1

Positioning

You sit or stand still while the scanner arm circles your head. There's nothing to bite down on.

2

The scan

The scanner captures images from multiple angles as it circles, taking well under a minute in total.

3

3D reconstruction

Software compiles the images into a 3D model of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures.

4

Reviewing it together

We turn the screen towards you and walk through what we're seeing before deciding anything.

Could 3D X-Ray Be Right for You?

A CBCT scan is used whenever a case needs more detail than a regular X-ray can give, most often for implants, complex root canals, or impacted teeth.

You're planning a dental implant and need an accurate view of your jawbone.

You have an impacted or awkwardly positioned wisdom tooth.

Your root canal case is complex, or a regular X-ray hasn't shown enough detail.

Your dentist needs to see your nerves, sinuses, or jaw structure clearly before treatment.

If you're ever unsure why a CBCT scan is being suggested, our team will explain the reason clearly before going ahead.

Frequently asked questions.

Here is what people ask us most about 3D X-Ray.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a specialised dental X-ray. The scanner circles your head and compiles the images into a detailed 3D model of your teeth, jaw, nerves, and surrounding bone, instead of the single flat image a regular X-ray gives.

Yes. It uses more radiation than a routine 2D dental X-ray, but significantly less than a hospital CT scan, and we only recommend one when the extra detail will genuinely change your treatment plan.

A regular X-ray gives a flat, single-angle image. A CBCT scan builds a full 3D model of your bone, roots, and nerves. Our 3D intraoral scan is different again: it's an optical scan of just the surface of your teeth and gums, with no radiation at all, mainly used for Invisalign and crowns. We'll explain which one your case actually needs.

Most often implant planning, complex root canal cases, impacted wisdom teeth, and getting a clear view of your jaw, nerves, or sinuses before treatment.

We'll confirm the cost at your consultation, based on what your case needs.

No. You sit or stand still while the scanner arm circles your head, with nothing to bite down on, and the whole thing is over in under a minute.
